Votre bébé cette semaine
Your baby is about the size of a lentil (approximately 4-5 mm) and is growing rapidly this week. Tiny limb buds are appearing — small paddle-like structures that will eventually become arms and legs with fingers and toes. The heart has divided into four chambers and is beating at a remarkable 100-120 beats per minute — nearly twice the rate of an adult heart — and may be visible on a transvaginal ultrasound. The beginnings of the jaw, cheeks, chin, and inner ear are taking shape, and dark spots mark where the eyes and nostrils will form. The intestines and lungs are beginning their early development, and the pituitary gland (the master hormone regulator) is forming in the brain.
Ce que vous pouvez ressentir
Morning sickness often intensifies this week as hCG levels peak — you may feel nauseous throughout the day, and some women begin vomiting regularly. Your sense of smell may become almost superhuman, with previously neutral odors suddenly becoming overwhelming and triggering waves of nausea. Breast changes continue with increased tenderness, darkening of the areolas, and visible veins across the chest as blood supply increases. Fatigue remains intense, and you might feel dizzy or lightheaded, especially when standing up quickly, due to changes in blood pressure and blood volume. Bloating and mild cramping are common as your uterus slowly begins to expand, though it is still well below the pubic bone.
Symptômes courants

Conseils de la semaine
Ginger is a proven remedy for pregnancy nausea — try ginger tea, ginger chews, ginger ale (with real ginger), or ginger capsules. Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) at 25 mg three times daily has been shown to reduce nausea and is considered safe in pregnancy — ask your doctor before starting. Keep bland, easy-to-digest snacks everywhere: your purse, car, desk, and nightstand, so you are never caught without something to settle your stomach. If you cannot keep any food or water down for 24 hours, contact your doctor — severe nausea and vomiting (hyperemesis gravidarum) may require medical treatment. Avoid brushing your teeth immediately after vomiting, as stomach acid weakens enamel; instead, rinse with water or a baking soda solution first.
Bien manger
- Eat every 2–3 hours to prevent an empty stomach, which worsens nausea.
- Try cold foods like fruit salad and sandwiches — they have less odor than hot meals.
- Include vitamin C-rich foods like oranges and strawberries to boost iron absorption.
Point nutrition
- Prenatal vitamins with DHA (200–300 mg) support your baby's brain and eye development.
- If iron supplements cause constipation, try a gentle form like iron bisglycinate.
Bien-être au quotidien
- Nap during the day if possible — your body is building the placenta.
- Wear a supportive bra to ease breast tenderness throughout the day.
- Avoid strong cooking smells — ask someone else to cook if odors trigger nausea.
Pour votre partenaire
Take inventory of your home and remove or relocate anything with a strong smell — certain cleaning products, perfumes, candles, or cooking spices may now be intolerable for her. Be the designated cook for a while, and be willing to make multiple small meals rather than one big dinner. Do not take it personally if she cannot eat something you prepared — food aversions are powerful and involuntary. Offer to attend the first ultrasound appointment if it is scheduled around now — hearing the heartbeat together for the first time is one of the most magical moments of pregnancy.
Signes à signaler à votre professionnel de santé
- Weight loss from severe vomiting and dark urine signals dehydration — call your doctor.
- Cramping with bright red bleeding could indicate miscarriage — seek care immediately.
- Fainting or severe dizziness may mean low blood pressure or ectopic pregnancy.
