Votre bébé cette semaine

Your baby weighs about 4.2 pounds and is around 17.2 inches long, about the size of a pineapple. The immune system is developing rapidly as antibodies pass from you to baby through the placenta, providing crucial early protection against infections. All bones are hardening through ossification, except the skull plates which remain soft and separated by fontanelles to allow the head to mold during delivery. Baby can detect light and dark, and the pupils change size in response. Brain development is in overdrive — the surface area of the brain is increasing dramatically with new folds and grooves forming.

Ce que vous pouvez ressentir

You may have developed the classic pregnancy waddle as your pelvis widens and your center of gravity shifts. Carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms like numbness, tingling, or pain in your fingers and wrists can occur due to fluid retention putting pressure on nerves. Insomnia may worsen due to physical discomfort, anxiety about labor, and frequent urination. You might notice increased swelling in your feet and ankles, especially at the end of the day. Fatigue levels may rival those of the first trimester as your body works overtime to support your growing baby.

Symptômes courants

  • Baby may have turned head-down (cephalic position) in preparation for birth.
  • Increased pressure on your bladder makes bathroom trips very frequent.
  • Numbness or tingling in your fingers and wrists from increased fluid retention.

Conseils de la semaine

Pack your hospital bag now — include your ID, insurance cards, a going-home outfit for baby, comfortable clothes for you, toiletries, phone charger, and any comfort items. Write down your birth preferences and discuss them with your OB or midwife. If you experience regular contractions before 37 weeks, call your provider right away as this could be preterm labor. Elevate your feet when sitting to help reduce swelling, and avoid standing for prolonged periods. Continue eating calcium-rich foods as baby's bones are rapidly hardening.

Bien manger

  • Eat frequent, small portions of protein and healthy fats to sustain energy.
  • Include foods rich in vitamin C — bell peppers, kiwi, and strawberries boost immunity.
  • Avoid raw or undercooked foods — your immune system is more vulnerable now.

Point nutrition

  • Continue 1,000 mg calcium and 600 IU vitamin D daily for strong bones.
  • Ensure 450 mg choline daily — baby's brain is developing memory centers.

Bien-être au quotidien

  • Ask your provider about baby's position — breech babies may still turn by week 36.
  • Install the infant car seat — rear-facing, in the back seat, at a 45-degree angle.
  • Practice relaxation and visualization exercises for labor preparation.

Pour votre partenaire

Pack your own hospital bag with essentials — snacks, phone charger, change of clothes, toothbrush, a book or tablet, and a camera. Know where the hospital bag is stored so you can grab it quickly. Consider writing a short list of people to notify when labor begins and have their contact information ready. This is also a good time to confirm your paternity leave plans with your employer.

Signes à signaler à votre professionnel de santé

  • Rhythmic contractions every 10–15 minutes that don't stop — possible preterm labor.
  • A sudden gush or steady trickle of clear fluid may be your water breaking.
  • Decreased fetal movement — always report changes from baby's normal pattern.
