Votre bébé cette semaine
Your baby is about the size of a fig, measuring around 1.6 inches and weighing about 0.25 ounces. Baby can now open and close those tiny fists, and tooth buds are forming beneath the gums. The head makes up about half of the body length, and the nasal passages are opening up. Hair follicles are beginning to form, and the diaphragm is developing, which means baby may start having hiccups soon — though you won't feel them yet.
Ce que vous pouvez ressentir
The welcome news this week is that morning sickness may finally be starting to ease for many women, and your energy levels could begin to pick back up. You might notice your hair looking thicker and more lustrous thanks to pregnancy hormones slowing down normal hair shedding. Increased blood volume can cause visible veins across your chest and breasts, and you may notice your nails growing faster. Some women also experience increased gas and bloating as progesterone continues to relax the digestive tract.
Symptômes courants
- Fatigue may start lifting — many women get a small energy boost around now.
- Increased appetite as nausea begins to fade for most women.
- Bloating and gas are common as digestion remains sluggish.
Conseils de la semaine
Now is the time to discuss first-trimester screening tests with your healthcare provider, including the nuchal translucency (NT) ultrasound and blood work typically done between weeks 11-14. Continue taking your prenatal vitamin with at least 600 mcg of folic acid daily. Focus on getting enough protein (about 75 grams per day) from lean meats, beans, eggs, and dairy to support your baby's rapid growth. Stay hydrated and consider fiber-rich foods to combat constipation, a common complaint at this stage.
Bien manger
- Rebuild nutrition with balanced meals — aim for protein, complex carbs, and healthy fats.
- Snack on edamame, hummus with veggies, and trail mix for sustained energy.
- Drink warm water with lemon in the morning to aid digestion.
Point nutrition
- Continue folic acid — it remains important through the first trimester.
- Vitamin C (85 mg/day) enhances iron absorption — pair citrus with iron-rich meals.
Bien-être au quotidien
- Start researching birthing classes and prenatal care options in your area.
- Practice Kegel exercises (3 sets of 10 daily) to strengthen pelvic floor muscles.
- Use a pregnancy pillow or body pillow for more comfortable sleep positions.
Pour votre partenaire
Research prenatal and childbirth classes together — popular ones fill up fast, so booking early is wise. Consider signing up for a first-trimester class, a Lamaze or Bradley method course, and an infant CPR class. This is also a great time to start a shared journal or photo album to document the pregnancy journey. Ask her how she's feeling each day — as symptoms start to shift, she may appreciate having someone to talk through the changes with.
Signes à signaler à votre professionnel de santé
- Bleeding with clots larger than a quarter requires immediate evaluation.
- Persistent severe headaches unresponsive to rest and hydration need assessment.
- Abdominal pain localized to one side still warrants ectopic screening.
